So we left Paraguay on Sept 28th and Arrived in La Paz (Bolivia) on Sept 30th midday. The Altitude was horrendous, we couldn't breath, sleep and had a constant headache. We only stayed this here one night as it was a place to sleep while passing through to get to Peru. Louise went to bed at 7pm while Andrew went and had a few drinks at the bar....I say a few drinks but 10 and half hours later he turns up at 5:30am steaming out of his head. He soon regretted that when we went for breakfast and he couldn't eat, which is a first for him. After a couple of hours we then went to get our bus to Cusco Peru. This journey was 12 hours long and we had to stop off at the border between Bolivia and Peru and get our passports stamped. This was strange as it was like a little town with no one guarding it in case people slipped through. It was literally an office building that you had to walk into and get it stamped.
Anyway we finally got to Cusco, it is really nice here. They have a town with some known shops...McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks and a North Face. They also have a shop called Tip Top which I would say is the closest looking thing to our Topshop. There are also lots of massage places. We both got a massage the first day. Louise had a hot stone massage that cost £12 and Andrew got a normal full body massage for £7. It is so cheap here yet we seem to be spending a fortune of food and of course drink :-) The place we are staying at is Loki Hostel and they have entertainment in the bar every night. They have a drink called Bloodbomb which is made up of Vodka, Redbull and Grenadine. They do it as a shot like Jaeger Bombs. They also line them up in a row and knock the shot glasses into the glass as a Domino effect which they call the Bloodbomb train. Its pretty cool to see when there are loads of people taking part.
A couple of days of arriving we went to Machu Picchu which was amazing. We had to get a 6hour mini van ride there (through mountain cliffs the whole way) some bits where bloody scary. We then had to walk 3 hours to a small town which we both done with ease. We walked along a train track the whole way. We were like Mo Farrah indisguise. We started off slow and then about 2 hours in we stormed ahead to make sure we didnt come last. We got to our hostel to settle in before dinner and to change as our clothes where soaked through from sweat. Once having dinner we went straight to bed as we where getting up early. While starting to snooze a very loud noise was coming from one of the other rooms. Louise woke up Andrew to here and to realise it was 2 people having sex very very loudly. It was actually really cringy like they where in some porno. Ha! As the girl was speaking yes yes yes in English we knew exactly who it was and then next day we just couldn't look at them properly. The next day our limbs where killing. We had to get up at 4:30am to a get a little bus to the top of the mountain. A lot of people walked up which takes about an hour and a half but we wimped out on that. When we finally got there we where shown around by our guide for a couple of hours and then got the chance to wander around alone. It really was an amazing sight to see. After few hours we went and had lunch at a Mexican. The meal was absolutely beautiful. Louise had Tacos and Andrew had Buritos yet they both come out looking exactly the same.
At 1pm we had to leave to get a train back as we where going to do the 3hour walk again. The train was really nice much better that the train we get back home. After another 6hour drive back we finally got home at 9pm and went straight to bed.
The last few days since then we have just been hanging around the town. Andrew went to a football game on Saturday to see Peru play a local Cusco team and Louise went shopping in town (so no difference from back home).
At the moment we are looking to take up Spanish lesson as we really want to be able to chat to people in Spanish. It seems like its the thing to do here too as everyone we have met have started to take lessons. Its really cheap to do too so we are hopefully going to start private lessons tomorrow.
We will soon upload some more photos but the internet we have here is quite slow so it takes ages to do.
On Friday we will be heading to a place called Ica. A load of people have told us we should check it out as you can do sand boarding and also visit an oasis so we will be heading there next.
Hope all is well with you at home and you are all working really hard at your desks :-).. we tell you this travel lark is really hard work. Getting up after a hangover and do nothing is really taking it out of us :-)
Speak soon
Lou and Andrew xxx
